Frontier painting in the Charles Russell tradition: running fights across open grass, a bronc throwing its rider with the hat already gone, Crow hunters crouched in windfall timber, a canoe gliding in on a sleeping camp, smoke of a .45 outside a saloon. It is watercolour and oil work with real narrative in it — each of these is a moment in the middle of a story, which is why they hold attention longer than a landscape. The tones are dusty and warm, and they suit a study, a bar or a room with leather in it. If you want one piece that starts conversations, take the largest bronc rider you can fit. Western wall art of the painted kind rather than the photographic: a cowboy painting print does far more for ranch decor than another set of longhorns ever will.
