Bonsai Metal Posters

Twelve studies of shaped trees: windswept junipers clinging to rock, layered pads over glazed blue and green pots, a trunk silhouetted against still orange water at sunset, rows of pots against brick. Bonsai is an odd and rewarding subject for wall art, because the whole art form is about implying a full-sized landscape at small scale — which is more or less what a poster does too. The work here runs from loose wet-on-wet watercolour to detailed painted studies. It suits a calm room: a study, a bedroom, a hallway. Hangs well beside the Japanese Art collection, and the two together make a coherent wall without matching too neatly. Bonsai tree art is the quietest zen wall decor going, and a japandi botanical print of a well-shaped tree carries a room without ever raising its voice.
