Comic covers from the forties and fifties, back when a cover had one job: stop someone at a newsstand. Ghost Comics promising the sleepers in the crypt, Dick Tracy in the yellow coat, Cat-Man swinging in for ten cents, Indians and Cheyenne Kid westerns, Animal Comics with Uncle Wiggily losing an argument with an alligator, boxing pulps, and Super Mystery's Magno the Magnetic Man. The printing was crude, the colour was limited to whatever the presses could hold, and the results are some of the best commercial graphic design of the century. On metal the flat colour and heavy outline look intentional rather than dated. A natural fit for a games room or a studio. A retro comic book print of this vintage is worth hanging for the drawing alone, and the pulp art poster end of it holds up the same way — golden age comic cover art was never trying to be subtle.
